Statement on ceasefire and permanent peace

(11 Waning of Tagu, 1381 ME) (30 April 2019)

1. With regard to the peace process in Myanmar, the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services announced on 21 December, 2018 that Tatmadaw, in order to effectively implement the peace process, has ceased all the military operations in Northern Command, North-Eastern Command, Eastern Command, Eastern Central Command and Triangle Region Command from 21 December 2018 to 30 April 2019.

2. During the ceasefire period, peace negotiations were held with ethnic armed organizations that have not yet signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA). In so doing, ethnic armed groups such as KIA, TNLA and MNDAA have demanded to extend the ceasefire period until they are able to sign the NCA by continuing peace talks.

3. Therefore, it is hereby announced that the Tatmadaw will extend its ceasefire period until 30 June 2019 in the abovementioned command headquarters as demanded by the ethnic armed organizations so as to implement the stages of the peace process in view of achieving eternal peace.
